Women's cricket in Dandenong Park back in 1905.

At the time the Dandenong Sunflowers were the only team to beat The Coldstreams, Cricket was a serious game even for a small town.

Aerial views of Dandenong in 2003 and 2013.

What a difference 10 years can make when urban renewal take hold. With Dandenong Train Station in the bottom left corner, Lonsdale street running up the right side and Walker Street (George street after it passes Robinson Street) running across the top. Some dramatic changes have taken place.

The jaunty Dandy Pig neon sign was first erected in the 1950s

The jaunty Dandy Pig neon sign was first erected in the 1950s on the Princes Highway, Dandenong, Victoria, for the Gippsland Co-operative Bacon Curing Company. After closure of the factory in 1983, the much loved pig languished in storage before being restored and re-erected in 1993. The Dandy Pig was acknowledged by Greater Dandenong Council in 2013 for the sign’s social, cultural and historical significance to the community.

Church Of Christ, 17 Robinson Street, Dandenong, in 1905

The original Church of Christ building was constructed in 1904 and officially opened on 28 August after an 11 week construction period on the corner of Robinson and George Street (before George street was realigned to meet the end of Walker street in the early 2010s).

In early 1918 through voluntary labour the Sunday School hall was added to the rear of the church, further working bees resulted in the lining of the hall and construction of the kitchen.

In September 1957 a newly built brick chapel on the corner of Mason and Walker Streets was completed (Presently occupied by Cornerstone Contact Centre since 1992), The church moved in 1990 to new premises at 139 David Street, outside the CBD area, ending its involvement in the centre of Dandenong.

The 1904 church building pictured was occupied by the Dandenong Assembly of God until 1977 when it was sold to the United Pentecostal Fellowship. It later became occupied by the Church of the Word. The building would survive into the 21st century before being demolished as part of the Revitalization of Dandenong, Presently the new A.T.O. building occupies this site.

Dandenong House Hotel, 50 Foster Street, Dandenong.

The Dandenong House Hotel, a majestic 40 room guest house with dining room, ground floor tea rooms and an underground kitchen, first opened at 50 Foster Street in 1911.

A wonderful shot of Walker Street Dandenong from the former AMP building looking past the Town Hall in the mid 1970's.

Looking up Walker Street towards where the Plaza now stands, After Myers was built but before the telephone exchange was extended/rebuilt higher blocking the view of Myers carpark. This is from a postcard and is dated 30/04/1977 by the sender, so we can assume it is from similar time.
